Quercus is a hands-on manager which invests primarily in early-stage technology companies in the ICT, telecom, content, entertainment, environmental, medical technology and health care sectors in the Benelux and neighboring countries. The firm seeks to invest a minimum of EUR 500 thousand in companies with a clear vision and a proven technology that are unable to realize their full potential on their own accord, focusing on technologies related to three important social trends: digitalization, the environment and ageing. They never invest more than 20% of total available funds in a single venture and prefer to co-invest in syndication for larger transactions. Quercus takes significant minority stakes in their investee companies, partnering with them as co-entrepreneurs and seeking a board position to act as a sounding board and to provide their knowledge, contacts and experience to support their growth. The firm also provides functional expertise within the management team and will invest in ventures with an initial ready-to-market product, as long as they have a customer base and verifiable market potential.
