Dr. Mike Gilbert became vice president of marketing at Micro Focus International Ltd. in February 2004.
He is responsible for setting the marketing strategy and product marketing efforts worldwide.
Prior to this, he was director of product strategy, a role that he has retained with his expanded role.
He joined the development group of Micro Focus in 1984, and among other innovations, led the team that built the first Object Oriented COBOL compiler.
He has also spent time as a customer services consultant at Micro Focus, and with the Product Management team.
Prior to joining Micro Focus, he led research into programmed nuclear plant safety systems at a UK government research organisation.
He also worked as development manager with Michael Jackson Systems Ltd., a software development methodology company.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Physics and Electronics from Manchester University, a Certificate in Education from York University, and a doctorate in Applied Physics from Cambridge University.
