As an Executive Advisor to Blue Sea Capital, Dr. Lewis assists with the evaluation and management support of the firm’s healthcare investments.
An orthopedic surgeon by training, Dr. Lewis has more than 30 years of significant experience across medicine, healthcare and education and has been a principal, advisor, and consultant to healthcare businesses, investment banks, venture capital, and private equity.
Dr. Lewis was a Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, where he was a member of the Admissions Committee, as well as the MD-MBA program’s Associate Director.
Dr. Lewis was also a Senior Lecturer at the Tuck School of Business, where he co-created and taught the course “Investing and Deal Making in Healthcare.” Prior to Dartmouth, Dr. Lewis was an Endowed Professor, Chairman of Orthopedics, and Chief of Staff at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
While at Mount Sinai, he served as the Vice President of a 500-physician Orthopedic practice group.
In Nashville, Dr. Lewis served as Professor of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University, as well as the Medical Director and Governing Board member of Vanderbilt’s Rehabilitation Hospital.
Prior roles include the Executive Vice President and Board member of Active Implants Corporation, an innovative orthopedic implants business, as well as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Priority Healthcare Corporation (Nasdaq: PHCC).
Dr. Lewis also invented a medical device that helped eliminate the need for amputation in some children with bone cancer.
Earlier, he served as an active-duty Medical Officer in the United States Navy; received his Orthopedic training at the Hospital for Special Surgery; and was a Fellow in Surgery at Memorial Hospital-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
