They manage intellectual property rights on behalf of the University, out-licensing technology and facilitating the creation of knowledge-based startups. Birkeland also administers a grant program intended to stimulate knowledge-based innovation within the University of Oslo. The program provides very-early-stage funding to allow researchers to establish first proof of concept.
