Vinci has announced that the consortium formed by Dragados Offshore - a subsidiary of Cobra IS - and Siemens Energy has been awarded a 2.9 billion euro contract by German power grid operator 50Hertz for the design, construction and installation of two 2 GW power conversion stations in the North Sea.

Cobra IS is a Spanish subsidiary of Vinci.

The project includes an offshore conversion platform, which will convert the alternating current produced by the LanWin 3 wind farm into high-voltage direct current.

An onshore station, located in Schwerin in north-east Germany, will also convert this direct current into alternating current. This will then be injected into the power grid for transmission and distribution in southern Germany.
