Siemens Mobility has won a major contract with BVG in Berlin to install its CBTC train control system on the U5 and U8 subway lines.

This project will enable semi-automated train operation by 2029 on line U5 and by 2032 on line U8, increasing line capacity by 30%.

CBTC technology will enable train intervals of less than 100 seconds, improving reliability and punctuality, Siemens points out.

The contract, worth around €200 million, also includes long-term maintenance commitments.
