Deutsche Lufthansa : Lufthansa Help Alliance provides medical and educational support to underprivileged children

Help Alliance, the employees' aid organization of Lufthansa German Airlines, today donated a mini bus to Aasraa Trust which will aid over 1,300 economically disadvantaged children in Dehradun. Through this initiative, Aasraa Trust will be able to provide medical as well as educational support to children from streets and slums of Dehradun.

Accompanied by a medical officer and equipped with basic medical amenities such as stretcher and first aid box, the bus will provide medical aid to children from 13 projects of the Aasraa Trust. Additionally, the bus will provide commute to over 800 children for the Trust's after school support program. The bus was handed over by Wolfgang Will, Director, South Asia, Lufthansa Passenger Airlines and Sangeeta Sharma, Senior Manager, Marketing and Product, Lufthansa India at 'Aasraa Haven' in.

'We are happy to strengthen our association with Aasraa Trust that has enabled us to touch young lives and provide them with an opportunity of a better future. Through our latest initiative we hope to expand our contribution to provide necessary medical aid to these children while continuing our support to their education', said Mr. Wolfgang Will, Director, South Asia, Lufthansa Passenger Airlines on behalf of Lufthansa Help Alliance. 'Lufthansa has been in India for over 50 years and India is an important market for us. As part of our social commitment, Lufthansa India will continue to focus on humanitarian activities such as health programmes and education in partnership with Help Alliance.' added Mr. Will.

In 2015, Help Alliance collaborated with Aasraa Trust which works with children from streets and slums of Dehradun. Help Alliance helped set up a computer lab that helps more than 200 children from the age of 5 - 18 years to gain computer knowledge, study school curriculum online, research study material and research the topics of their interest.

'Ever since I was introduced to Aasraa Trust, I was convinced that this was not just a project but a movement that would create a deep impact in society. With support of Help Alliance, Lufthansa India has been able be a part of the wonderful work done by Aasraa Trust. We are delighted to see the change being brought about at society's grassroots.' said Sangeeta Sharma, who is also the project manager of this help alliance project on an entirely voluntary basis.

Help Alliance is the employees' aid organization of Lufthansa German Airlines, promoting sustainable human, social and economic development. Employees of Lufthansa in India as well as from abroad have frequently volunteered to support the several programs in India over the past few years. In 2015, Lufthansa partnered with Help Alliance for its #Diwalisurprise campaign and supported projects like Sunshine Project in Delhi, BREADS in Bengaluru, Child Sponsoring Circle in Khandwa and Prana project in Pondicherry. Other areas of support by Help Alliance in India include The Banyan project to provide medical and skill development support to people with mental illness in 2008.

Aasraa Trust is based in Dehradun, India, the capital city of Uttarakhand, in the foothills of the Himalaya. It is dedicated to the education & social advancement of slum and street children.
