FM is beefing up its offering for the data center sector, announcing a major increase in the capacity it can deploy through FM Intellium, its new unit dedicated to technology risks. Backed by nearly 200 years of risk engineering expertise, the property insurer says it can now provide up to $5bn in capacity for this fast-growing ecosystem, including related power generation infrastructure, with coverage limits billed as unprecedented in the market.
Launched in 2025, FM Intellium aims to support companies as AI and cloud computing expand, along with the new energy needs they generate.
To lead this ramp-up, Christopher Dempsey was appointed director in October.
FM also reiterated its longstanding presence in the field: the insurer says it has covered data centers for more than 25 years and today protects around 1,100 sites, with a total value estimated at $250bn.
