Rex I. Blankinship

Blankinship Corp. is a value manager. The firm manages the Blankinship Value Fund, a no-load mutual fund that seeks to improve returns and reduce risk by investing in good companies when their stocks are trading at a discount to their intrinsic values. Blankinship looks for companies with lasting competitive advantages that allow them to earn above average returns on invested capital without using excessive leverage or accounting tricks. The Blankinship Value Fund typically invests in small companies, especially US micro-cap companies with market-cap less than $200 million, but it is open to a variety of other investments so that it can adapt as market prices and relative values change. The Fund blends value and growth investing in that it prefers to buy great companies at fair prices, rather than fair companies at great prices. The Fund often looks for opportunities where a company is experiencing bad news or uncertainty due to earnings shortfalls, management problems, product recalls, lawsuits, corporate reorganizations, liquidations or other major or negative events. The Fund tends to use broader diversification when greater compromise or uncertainty is involved. When an exceptional opportunity is identified, the Fund may invest up to 25% of its total assets in that company's stock. In addition to small companies, the Fund is open to a variety of other investments including: (1) companies of any size (2) bonds and preferred stocks, including those convertible into common stock and bonds of any maturity or duration (3) foreign securities, up to 50% of the Fund's assets (4) REITS, up to 25% of the Fund's assets and (5) high-yield bonds of any rating, up to 25% of the Fund's assets. The Fund prefers long holding periods to reduce brokerage costs and taxes paid by its shareholders. The Fund may engage in active and frequent trading to achieve its investment objectives. The Fund may also take temporary defensive positions that are inconsistent with its primary investment strategies in response to adverse market, economic, political or other conditions. In addition, the Fund may also hold cash when attractively priced investments are scarce and it may hold up to 100% of its assets in cash for extended periods while seeking good investment values. The Fund also tends to hold some cash to fund redemptions and to be prepared for new investment opportunities.
