Chirin is an active, directional, opportunistic manager which follows a top-down and bottom-up investment approach, investing in debt, equity and currencies in the Asia Pacific market universe. The firm performs in-house research and believes that no single investment approach is best for all Asian markets. Chirin performs a global strategic overview to determine acceptable profile risk, considering factors such as inflation, central bank monetary policy, local risk appetite and political dynamics. The firm believes that their fundamental stockpicking must be coherent with their top-down strategy and seeks value and growth in large- and small-cap firms. Their teams in Singapore and Hong Kong perform research, building relationships with company management, consumers, suppliers, competitors, clients, independent consultants, academics, actuaries and sell-side analysts. Chirin manages risk by avoiding politically unstable, business unfriendly or economically mismanaged countries and seeks to minimize company-specific risk by diversifying holdings within sector/thematic exposure. They perform technical analysis to be able to exit positions quickly and with low impact, and employ a stop-loss discipline, automatically reviewing any position that is 10% down. The firm measures performance against the MSCI Asia Pacific index.
