Liane Hicks Cooney

Liane Hicks Cooney is the managing attorney in Berry, Appleman & Leiden’s Washington DC/Tysons VA office.
She concentrates on matters involving nonimmigrant business visa practice, as well as advising companies in complex immigration practice and policy concerns.
Ms. Cooney has over ten years experience exclusively practising US immigration law with firms in the US and UK, focusing on business immigration and consular processing.
Prior to joining Berry, Appleman & Leiden, Ms. Cooney established and developed a new US immigration practice within the UK’s largest corporate immigration and nationality practice.
She advised corporate entities in a range of industries on US immigration matters relating to treaty company registrations and treaty employee visas, intracompany transfers, business visitors, specialty occupation professionals and EB-1 immigrant visa petitions.
Ms. Cooney managed processing of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications at the US Embassy in London.
She provided advice to AILA lawyers on London processing, and was a regular speaker at conferences and seminars (Confederation of British Industry, ECA International, London Business School, and numerous in-house seminars for clients).
Ms. Cooney received her B.A. with Honors in Sociology and Political Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1979.

from George Washington University, National Law Center, Washington, D.C.
in 1987.
Ms. Cooney is a member of the Texas Bar and AILA.
