Cascade Investment Counsel LLC
Cascade Investment Counsel LLC Investment ManagersFinance Cascade Investment Counsel is a large-cap value manager. The firm maintains a very low turnover rate. They look for securities that offer a current yield that compares favorably with its own historic level or that are yielding more than 'normal'. This includes issues that are out of favor in the market. Cascade monitors entire industries as they rise and fall from favor. They generally act in a contrarian manner, seeking value among those issues that are down, but not in serious trouble. Cascade generally owns about 25 issues with no more than 5 in any narrow SIC group. They focus on the energy minerals, non-energy minerals and industrial services sectors. Cascade sells issues when they no longer qualify for the Cascade approved list or when projected earnings become insufficient to support the dividend adequately. Cascade generally sells when issues reach a relative current yield that is historically too low for the current market cycle or when they can substitute another qualified issue that will provide a greater return to the portfolio. The firm makes minor sales to achieve balance, diversification and current yield needs. Cascade's fundamental analysis begins with the Cascade Approved List, which serves as their working universe. Next they consider broad industry fundamentals to avoid over-emphasis on those in broad decline. Last, they look at each company to make sure it fits the portfolio needs. Cascade uses technical analysis to aid in the timing of entry and exit points. While they observe up and down volume, relative strength and other factors, their decisions are rarely dominated by technical factors. | Finance |
