G. Farris

G. Steven Farris (born March 1948) is a businessman in the oil and gas industry.

Executive positions
Farris is Chairman (since 2009), Chief Executive Officer (since 2002) and President (1994) at Apache Corporation. At the helm, the company’s stock returns for 2013 were 11 percent. In 2013, his total compensation was $11,228,245.

Once he became President, the firm’s assets grew from lower than $2bn in 1994 to over $28bn today with an increase from 108,000 boe/day of daily production to 560,000 boe/day.

Board memberships
In March 1999, Farris was appointed a Trustee of the Ucross Foundation. He Co-Chairman of the U.S.-Egypt Business Council and the US Chairman of the US-Egypt Business Council. He is a member of: Business Roundtable, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors and the Board of Directors of Fund for Teachers.He is a founding member at Americas Natural Gas Alliance, of which he currently sits on the executive committee.

Apache achievements
Farris was instrumental in some substantial acquisitions, totaling over $16 billion within three years, while increasing the firm’s liquid assets. With him at the helm, the company’s quarterly dividend more than tripled between 2004 ($0.06) to 2013 ($0.20). He has also worked to make employees happy, with a gift-matching program for qualified charities. In 2011, Apache raised over $900,000 for not-for-profit organizations. He was described as being “a class-act worthy of two thumbs up!

Employment history
Before joining Apache, Farris was Executive VP of Robert W. Berry, Inc. He was also VP of Finance and Business Development at Terra Resources Inc. Before his current lead roles at Apache Corp., he held a variety of other positions at the firm including: Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President, Vice President of Exploration and Production. He has been with Apache since 1988.

Recognitions
Farris was honored by the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers & the Houston Wildcatters on July 24, 2013. In 2014 he was listed as Number 20 in Houston’s Highest Paid Executives.

Farris has a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Accounting from Oklahoma University.
