Bruce Berkowitz

Bruce Berkowitz is president and director of Fairholme Capital Management fund, which manages a portfolio of $9 billion. After he has obtained a Bachelor in economics, Bruce Berkowitz had continued his studies and he graduated from the University of Massachusetts. Then he arrived in Lehman Brothers as management consultant.

From December 1993 to October 1997, he is general manager of the investment firm Smith Barney, Inc. Then in 1999, he funded the Fairholme fund, as London street’s name, where he lived from 1981 to 1989.

Bruce Berkowitz focuses his investments in a limited number of companies. He believes that more the portfolio is diversified, more returns will be less. This investment strategy remembered that of his mentor, Benjamin Graham. This 20th century’s economist is recognized as one of the most talented investor in the world.

Bruce Berkowitz manages a portfolio, where he has chosen only companies generating significant cash flow, managing strong assets and led by excellent managers. Between its launch in 1999 and late 2007, Fairholme has generated an average annual return of 17,4%.

Bruce Berkowitz has opted for investment in health, wellness and pharmaceutical products. United Health Group, Wellpoint, Forest Laboratories, and Pfizer are among his top choices.
