Barbod’s passion for tech was already clear in his early teenage years when he started teaching himself programming and web design.
A passion that has since guided him from London trading floors to the world of Venture Capital.
At HV, he combines his unique finance expertise with a deep knowledge of new technologies to lead investments in the fintech space.
Born into a multi-cultural family and having lived in countries as varied as Italy, Germany, the UK and the United States, Barbod has always considered himself as a citizen of the world.
His upbringing equipped him with a unique adaptability, perspective and appreciation for different cultures as well as an insatiable curiosity - especially for new technologies.
Following a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering at Imperial College London he went on to receive an MBA from Columbia Business School, where he discovered his passion for venture capital.
Prior to joining HV Capital, Barbod covered investment roles in the public markets and in Private Equity.
He was part of a team that backed the first privately funded submarine cable on the East African coast (Seacom) and experienced how technological innovation and out of the box thinking could do immense good, while also being a sound business.
After obtaining his MBA, he took the position of VP Investment Management at Rocket Internet.
In this role he was instrumental in expanding Rocket’s portfolio of companies.
At HV Capital, Barbod is a partner covering the Fintech, Insurtech, B2B SaaS sectors.
He has led HV Capital’s early investments in BUX, Penta, Yapily and Solarisbank, among others.
In his spare time Barbod likes snowboarding, travelling and experiencing modern and urban art.
