Early life
He is one of two sons of Paul Desmarais, Sr. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, he attended Lakefield College School in Ontario for two years, then Selwyn House School and later obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University, both of which are located in Montreal.
In 2003 he was appointed to the International Council of the JP Morgan Chase Bank. Also in that year he was named an officer of the Order of Canada. In 2009, he was made an Officer of the National Order of Quebec.
Desmarais is on the Board of Directors of the Canadian International Council.
Personal life
He is married to France Chrétien Desmarais, the daughter of former Prime Minister of Canada Jean Chrétien. They have four children.
