Webuild's contribution to modernization of the us highway network increased

Milan, April 29, 2024 - Lane, the US subsidiary of the Webuild Group, has won a new USD110 million contract (approximately €101 million, 100% Lane) to build the "Newport News Segment" of the I-64 Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Project" in Hampton, Virginia. The new contract follows the recent announcement of the acquisition of a USD299 million project in Florida (100% Lane), to widen the Seminole Expressway/SR 417.

The new project was commissioned by the Virginia Department of Transportation and aims at reducing traffic and to provide additional travel choices on one of the main interstate highways in the US. The project includes the widening and reconfiguration of I-64 adding an Express Lane in each direction. For 10.2 miles of the corridor from Bland Boulevard to the I-664 interchange (exit 264), the existing high occupancy vehicles (HOV) lane in each direction will be converted into an Express Lane, alongside the three free general-purpose lanes. For the remaining 1.3 miles of the segment between the I-664 interchange and Armistead Avenue, one general purpose lane will be converted into an Express Lane in each direction, alongside the two free general-purpose lanes. The project also includes two bridge replacements and six bridge rehabilitations, as well as overhead sign and tolling gantry installation. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2027.

The HREL project, of which the Newport News Section is an integral part, in its totality foresees creating an uninterrupted 45-mile network (approximately 72 km) of new lanes along the I-64, from west of Denbigh Boulevard to Newport News to the intersection to the I-264/ I-664 Bowers Hill interchange in Chesapeake.

Webuild through Lane is currently building other important road projects in the US. In Florida it is working to widen a section of the I-275 at Tampaand at strengthening the interconnection between the I-4 and Sand Lake Road in Orange County. Lane is also completing the Poinciana Parkwayin Osceola County and is carrying out works on the Mainline Turnpike in Orlando. Additionally, it is working on the improvement of I-77/I-40 Interchange, in North Carolina and on the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension(495 NEXT) in Virginia.
