Mersen announces that it has delivered the fifth and final mirror for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) to Safran Reosc.

The ELT, the world's most powerful telescope, is equipped with a 39-meter-diameter primary mirror, and is built in Chile at an altitude of over 3,000 meters.

Mersen's M5 mirror consists of six silicon carbide (Boostec SiC) petals, coated with SiC CVD. These petals are assembled by brazing, guaranteeing a homogeneous optical surface ready for polishing. Silicon carbide, light and rigid, is crucial for correcting telescope structure vibrations and stabilizing images.

The mirror, measuring 2.7 meters, will be the world's largest tip-tilt mirror, continuously correcting atmospheric disturbances.
