FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - According to a report, the branch closures at Deutsche Bank subsidiary Postbank will lead to the loss of around 1,000 jobs. This was agreed by management and the works council in a reconciliation of interests concluded at the beginning of June, reports the "Handelsblatt". Deutsche Bank did not wish to comment on the report. However, a spokesperson emphasized to "Handelsblatt" that the measure was to be understood "in the context of the known staff reduction figures". Deutsche Bank announced at the beginning of February that it would be cutting a total of around 3,500 jobs.

In addition to savings in infrastructure and IT, it had announced a streamlining of the sales network. Deutsche Bank plans to reduce the number of Postbank branches from 550 to 320 by mid-2026. According to the latest collective agreement with the trade union Verdi, redundancies for operational reasons are ruled out until the end of 2027. There are to be no cuts in customer advisory services. The bank intends to take on customer advisors from branches that are to be closed in other branches or the planned advisory centers.

Deutsche Bank has had advisory centers for several years. Now Postbank teams are to be added at nine locations: in Hamburg, Berlin, Essen, Schkeuditz, Wuppertal, Mainz, Mannheim, Nuremberg and Munich. In addition, two new Postbank-only advisory centers are planned in Hanover and Bonn. Deutsche Bank intends to set up the new structure over the next few months so that all eleven Postbank advisory centers will be available to customers by 2025.

In future, private customers will be able to obtain information on financial matters by telephone or video link outside of normal branch opening hours and on Saturdays./mar/DP/ngu
