(Silver Spring, Md.) - Discovery Communications has promoted Gabriel Sauerhoff to the role of Senior Vice President, Digital Distribution. Sauerhoff reports to Eric Phillips, President, Domestic Distribution, who made today's announcement.

A seven-year Discovery Communications veteran, Sauerhoff will now oversee strategy, development and execution of Discovery's digital media distribution business. Working in tandem with pay TV operators and digital content distributors, Sauerhoff will work to expand Discovery's offerings on mobile, online and emerging platforms with content from Discovery's portfolio of 13 U.S. networks.

'Propelling Discovery forward in the digital space is critical to our company's long-term success,' said Phillips. 'Gabe's strategic expertise in driving new business with our digital partners will continue to be invaluable as we navigate an evolving pay TV business.'

Previously as Vice President, Digital Media Distribution, Sauerhoff was responsible for identifying new partnerships with emerging content distributors and driving distribution strategies across Discovery's TV and web-native content offerings. Among his many accomplishments during his tenure at Discovery, Sauerhoff led the company's first agreements in the digital MVPD space, expanded Discovery's presence with a diverse range of SVOD providers and forged innovative TV Everywhere and direct-to-consumer partnerships.

Before joining Discovery in 2010, Sauerhoff held both Senior Director and Manager positions in Digital Video Distribution at Disney and ESPN Media Networks. There he identified, negotiated and managed content distribution relationships with a multitude of digital partners, as well as developed new distribution channels. Prior to that, he held several positions in ESPN Affiliate Sales and Marketing. Sauerhoff began his career as a management consultant for Marketing Corporation of America.

Sauerhoff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Dartmouth College. He is based in Discovery's New York office.
