Discovery Education and the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum are partnering today to offer students around the world a unique learning experience in the eight annual "Reading Discovery Program." More than 40,000 students are expected to tune in as former First Lady Barbara Bush reads from award-winning author Lynn Curlee's book Rushmore, speaks about the importance of literacy and answers students' questions via an interactive video conference.

Rushmore explores STEM topics such as the engineering of Mount Rushmore, as well as social studies and relevant historical issues. For the first time in the history of the program, students will not just read text on the pages of a paper book, but will experience  it coming to life through computer-generated technology. Discovery Education's Senior Director Hall Davidson will lead participants in a demonstration of augmented reality technology, which allows students to overlay digital information - such as engaging videos, audio and graphics - on any image being viewed on a device, such as a smartphone.

Joining Mrs. Bush on stage as reading partners will be multiple students from Houston Independent School District and Bryan Independent School District.

The event will be hosted from 11-12:15pm ET. Interested in participating? There's still time to register online!
