Thales announces the signature of a memorandum of cooperation with Spire Global and European Satellite Services Provider (ESSP) to introduce a range of innovative global satellite surveillance services to the air traffic management (ATM) sector and the aviation market in general.

These services will be provided by a specialized constellation of more than 100 satellites, which will collect Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) messages from aircraft and transmit the data back to Earth in real time.

Spire will develop the space segment, Thales will provide the ground-based ATM system and the service supervision infrastructure, while ESSP will be responsible for certification and provision of the service for air traffic surveillance purposes, as well as for 24-hour operation and supervision.

The partners plan to certify, market and start operating the service by 2027.
