RESTRUCTURE THE ELECTRICITY GRID IN REGGIO CALABRIA

Over 25 km of power lines and 74 pylons will be demolished, freeing up 75

hectares of land

Projects valued at over 3 million euros

Rome, 13 May 2024 - Following approval from the respective Ministries of the definitive project to restructure the 150 kV electricity grid in the Municipalities of San Procopio, Sinopoli and Melicuccà, in the province of Reggio Calabria, Terna has published a notice containing the areas potentially affected by the project.

The project for structural modernisation of the electricity grid in the area, for which the company led by Giuseppina Di Foggia will invest over 3 million euros, will ensure greater operating reliability and environmental sustainability thanks to the lower impact on the territory from existing overhead power lines. In addition, the infrastructure will make it possible to take more advantage of additional energy, provided through completion of the 380 kV "Sorgente - Rizziconi" submarine connection, thus guaranteeing more efficient coverage of local energy needs.

Specifically, Terna will build a new overhead power line of approximately 4 km, named "San Procopio - Palmi Sud", thanks to which it will be possible to demolish the entire 150 kV "Scilla - San Procopio" connection for 14 km and an 11 km stretch of the 150 kV "Palmi Sud

• Scilla" power line. Overall, over 25 km of power lines and a total of 74 pylons will be removed, freeing up 75 hectares of land, of which approximately 80% falls within the "Costa Viola" protected area, home to marine and land habitats rich in biodiversity.

Terna plans to begin construction in 2025, once all preliminary activities necessary to launch the works are completed.
