TERNA: AUTHORISATION FOR RESTRUCTURING OF THE

ELECTRICITY GRID IN TERAMO-PESCARA

The project involves planned investments of over €28 million

12 km of old overhead power lines demolished and over 14 km of underground cable power lines

laid

Rome, 9 January 2022 - The authorisation decree was signed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition for the reorganisation of the 150 kV electricity grid in Teramo-Pescara, which will affect a total of 4 municipalities in the provinces of Pescara (Pescara, Montesilvano, Città Sant'Angelo and Spoltore) for a project worth over €28 million.

The project, over 14 km of underground cable and 1.5 km of overhead power lines, will guarantee greater resilience of the electricity grid and higher quality and safety of the service. In particular, by making the 132 kV Adriatic backbone more efficient, it will be possible to create a new structure that will power the city of Pescara, adequately covering the growing needs resulting from the social and industrial development of the area.

The project will also bring important benefits to the environment because it will be possible to demolish 12 km of old overhead power lines and about 30 pylons, it will also be possible to decommission 4 km of underground power lines, thus allowing to return about 40 hectares of land affected by existing electrical infrastructures.

Starting from the first few months of the year, the executive planning of the work and all the preparatory activities for the opening of the construction sites, scheduled for the last quarter of 2022, will begin.

As part of its 2021-2025 Driving Energy Business Plan, Terna, which manages 2,300 km of high and extra-high-voltage lines and 25 electrical substations in the region, will invest approximately €220 million in Abruzzo to develop the local electricity grid and increase its resilience as part of the energy transition promoted by the company. The works will involve over 50 companies and 260 personnel.
