COVID-19 has had a disruptive impact on mobility which affects the future of transport and urban planning.

This change increases the need for reliable information on the movements of people. Telia and Ramboll joined forces to start a significant cooperation on using Telia's Crowd Insights tool.

Telia's location data service has provided anonymised information on the movements of the masses to support authorities' decision-making during the pandemic. This newly signed agreement with Ramboll aims at a wide utilization of mobility data in transport, urban planning and tourism development projects implemented by public administrations and companies. Telia and Ramboll have been cooperating before in various regional and tourism development projects in Finland.

'The effects of a change in mobility behaviour on transport planning, urban development and tourism are significant and, in many ways, permanent. With our Crowd Insights service, we are able to provide valuable information about crowd movements for different needs. The COVID-19 crisis has shown the importance of fast and reliable data to support decision-making', Senior Business Manager Tapio Leva, Telia Finland, says.

'Location data enables us to observe and take changes in the society and in the movement of people into account in a timely manner, also amidst extraordinary circumstances such as the current Covid-19 pandemic. We can now produce source information for transport and urban planning faster and more cost-efficiently. The data is well suited for the assessment of regional and inter-city transport development projects, for example. Further, we are better equipped to even more client-centric service and product development,' Director Markku Kivari, Smart Mobility, Ramboll Finland, says.

The cooperation starts in Finland and is planned to expand to both companies operating area in the Nordic countries.

Anonymized Information on the Movements of the Masses

Telia Crowd Insights is based on mobile network data from Telia's network. All data is anonymised and aggregated automatically before use to protect personal privacy and can never be traced back to an individual. The only thing analysed is movement patterns for groups, disconnected from individual and person.
