Rio Tinto Limited Reports Operating Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year of 2018; Provides Production Guidance for the Year 2019
For the full year, the company reported Alumina production was 7,980,000 tonnes against 8,131,000 tonnes a year ago. Aluminium production was 3,458,000 tonnes against 3,551,000 tonnes a year ago. Bauxite production was 50,421,000 tonnes against 50,796,000 tonnes a year ago. Borates production was 512,000 tonnes against 517,000 tonnes a year ago. Mined Copper production was 633,500 tonnes compared to 478,100 tonnes a year ago. Iron Ore production was 290,800,000 tonnes compared to 282,484,000 tonnes a year ago. Uranium production was 6,764,000 lbs compared to 6,650,000 lbs a year ago. Gold - mined production was 638,800 oz compared to 260,100 oz a year ago. Silver mined production was 5,910,000 oz compared to 4,194,000 oz a year ago. Diamonds production was 18,427,000 carats against 21,627,000 carats a year ago. Titanium dioxide slag production was 1,116,000 tonnes against 1,315,000 tonnes a year ago. Molybdenum production was 58,000 tonnes against 50,000 tonnes a year ago. Salt production was 6,153,000 tonnes against 5,090,000 a year ago.
For the year 2019, Rio Tinto's share of mined copper production for 2019 is expected to be between 550 and 600 thousand tonnes, subject to grade availability. Refined copper production is expected to be between 220 and 250 thousand tonnes. Diamond production guidance for 2019 is between 15 and 17 million carats. bauxite production to be between 56 and 59 million tonnes. Aluminium production guidance to be between 3.2 and 3.4 million tonnes and alumina production guidance is 8.1 to 8.4 million tonnes.
