Intesa Sanpaolo SpA has renewed the term of its chief executive and managing director, Carlo Messina, it said late Friday.

Following the reelection of the board of directors at Friday's shareholders' meeting, the board unanimously decided to reappoint Mr. Messina to his position at the helm of the Italian bank, Intesa said. Mr. Messina has been CEO of the lender since 2013.

The reappointment will ensure "consistent management" of the bank, Intesa said.
