IBM announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Honda to develop a research project on software-defined vehicles.

In a press release, the two groups state that they intend to collaborate, in a long-term perspective, on the design of semiconductors and technologies likely to equip these cars of the future.

IBM and Honda explain that the growing use of AI expected by 2030 and beyond will make vehicle development more complex, and require enhanced chip capabilities.

The memorandum of understanding intends to focus on a few areas considered key, namely specialized semiconductors, brain-inspired computing and high-bandwidth, low-latency connectors ('chiplets').
