AMETIC , the Spanish Association of Electronics, Information and Communications Technologies, Telecommunications and Digital Content Companies, has recognised Iberdrola with the 2014 Award for Promoting ICT in Spanish Companies. Iberdrola CIO Fernando Lucero Batalla received the award fromVíctor Calvo-Sotelo, Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Society during the gala dinner held last night at the Gran Casino Sardinero in Santander, sponsored by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and Tecnocom, and scheduled within the framework of the 29th Telecommunications and Digital Economy Encounter organised by the technology stakeholder during the summer courses at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).

AMETIC Consultancy Board confers the award on exemplary Spanish companies in recognition of their efforts in the incorporation of information and communications technologies to their respective businesses. Iberdrola meets these criteria perfectly for having developed an ICT-backed innovation policy as a key factor to increase company productivity and efficiency, and thus attain a better competitive position in the marketplace.

The company has renowned and recognised efforts in the areas of generation, distribution and renewable energies. Our detailed analysis of its innovation strategy revealed that Iberdrola is also a pioneering company in the exploration and use of advanced concepts such as Big Data, Analytics, 3D Printing, Smart Grids, Mobility and Collaboration across all its business fields, with a view to, among others, improving client experience and recovering service in the event of serious natural catastrophes.

In the words of José Manuel de Riva , AMETIC chairman, "we are looking at a prominent Spanish company, with an innovation policy that should serve as a benchmark for Spanish production sectors insofar as how to take on a digital transformation process".

In turn, iberdrola's Chief Information Officer (CIO) Fernando Lucero Batalla received the award on behalf of the company and then underlined the Group's firm commitment to innovation and, in this regard, with the implementation of ICT across all its corporate and business areas. "By applying the most cutting edge information and communications technologies in an industrial corporation such as ours, in such diverse sectors as power generation (remote control), distribution (smart grids) or renewable energies, we are making gains in efficiency and, therefore, competitiveness".

Lucero likewise pointed out that this recognition "is an incentive to continue advancing in digital transformation at Iberdrola, whose basic goals include the shoring up of bidirectional communications and permanent dialogue, together and directly with all stakeholders, including clients, and the provision of next generation services".

The Award

In establishing this award, now granted for a third consecutive year, AMETIC intends to recognise the efforts that Spanish companies and entities have made to position themselves at the prominence of technology by incorporating innovative solutions for providing significant competitive advantages to smoothen their way towards internalisation, and which, in some cases, have helped them become the global bellwether in their respective fields of activity.

AMETIC understands that the perfect framework for this Spanish industry recognition of organisations that have contributed to furthering ICT is the Telecommunications and Digital Economy Encounter, organised by the very same technology stakeholder. The Encounter's slogan for this year's 29th edition is "Strategies for a Single Market". The Encounter, inaugurated yesterday by Víctor Calvo-Sotelo, is among the most relevant events on the telecommunications industry calendar as it joins together the key players of a sector that is essential for the national economy. Various renowned speakers, high-ranking Spanish government and European officials, and senior executives from top technology companies will all converge here between 31 August and 3 September to share their reflections and opinions regarding the evolution of the telecommunications sector and future tendencies regarding these technologies.
