GDF SUEZ will contribute to the sustainable development of Cyberjaya, Malaysia's premier cybercity, through joint operation with local partner Cyberview Sdn Bhd of Cyberjaya's district cooling network. Through Cofely, a GDF SUEZ company, the Group will bring its international expertise in heating and cooling systems and in energy efficiency to Cyberjaya.

To this end, GDF SUEZ has acquired a 49% share of Pendinginan Megajana Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cyberview Sdn Bhd that owns, operates and manages the district cooling network in Cyberjaya. Cofely and Cyberview will jointly operate and further develop this network.

Megajana is the sole supplier of chilled water and developer of the district cooling system for business premises in Cyberjaya. Two plants are currently supplying chilled water to 37 major buildings providing them 24/7 energy efficient, cost-effective and reliable chilled water through a 15 km network of underground pipes.

The joint venture will cater to this premier ICT hub's rapid expansion, presently growing annually more than 70%. Today, Cyberjaya is home to more than 600 Malaysian and global technology companies including Hewlett Packard, Dell, Fujitsu, Motorola, AMD, DHL, HSBC, Shell, BMW, IBM and Ericsson.

"With the entry of Cofely as a world-leading player, Megajana will improve the quality of service to its customers while enriching its commercial offering through innovative strategies derived from GDF SUEZ expertise. Moreover this joint venture is fully in line with GDF SUEZ strategy to expand its activities in fast growing markets," said Jérôme Tolot, Executive Vice President of GDF SUEZ in charge of the Energy Services business line.

District networks make it possible to optimize energy efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions and provide for sustainable urban development. In Asia, the Group is developing quickly in this sector. GDF SUEZ has recently signed an agreement with the city of Tianjin in China to build, own and operate over 23 years the district cooling network of the Yujiapu new financial district.

GDF SUEZ, through Cofely, is the leading district cooling and heating network operator in France and in the United Kingdom, and operates over 180 district heating and cooling systems worldwide, including for the cities of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Lisbon, London, Monaco, Paris and now Cyberjaya.
