Endesa Educa, the company's programme aimed at fostering energy efficiency awareness among Spanish primary school pupils, is about to reach Madrid's classrooms. In January and February, Energy Farm, the Endesa Educa  travelling workshop, will be visiting 70 schools in Madrid, where it will deliver a total of 290 educational activities. Around 7,200 year 3 and 4 primary school pupils are expected to take part.

Energy Farm is a travelling workshop which raises awareness of energy and its efficient use. Since October 2012 the workshop has travelled to schools in various Spanish cities and, having debuted on the Canary Isles and toured Andalusia, it has now reached Madrid.

During the workshop, pupils observe and experience first-hand how renewable energies can be used to obtain electricity. With Energy Farm, an Endesa Educa teacher visits schools equipped with the necessary material to deliver the activity. Through these activities the pupils find out about the world of energy, and in particular renewables, via a series of experiments. In this way they can experience for themselves the concepts and processes learned in class.

The response of schools has been exceptionally positive during the initial roll-out phases of the project. Teachers welcome in particular the opportunity to work with pupils at school with all the necessary educational material and teaching resources rather than having to travel off-site. In addition, the content of the education programme helps to reinforce many of the sustainability and energy efficiency messages so important in today's society and which schools are increasingly incorporating into their curriculums.

The experiments which Endesa Educa is bringing to classrooms range from a kitchen and a solar-powered shower to a wind turbine. Observing how these work means pupils gain direct insights how the electricity they use in their everyday lives is generated.

After leaving Madrid in March, the workshop's tour will continue in Galicia, Aragón, the Balearic Islands and Catalonia. In total, some 1,200 activities will be carried out in Spanish schools.

In addition to its new travelling workshop, Endesa Educa offers a wide range of free educational activities on an ongoing basis to all educational centres in Spain. These include visits to electricity facilities, guided activities at Endesa's information centres, ongoing workshops and online activities. At present, and close to Madrid region, visits are being offered to four wind farms in Ávila and a solar plant in Toledo.

Endesa Educa and PlayEnergy

The Endesa Educa project is one of a number of education schemes which, under the international name PlayEnergy, the Enel Group has designed over the past 10 years in conjunction with various schools in the countries where it has a significant presence.

In the most recent edition, some 130,000 children and young people received training at over 10,000 schools in 10 countries (Italy, Spain, Chile, Slovakia, Romania, Brazil, Russia, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama), taking part in over 3,300 activities as either competitions, projects or initiatives.

PlayEnergy provides schools with numerous tools with which to embark on a unique entertaining and scientific journey. Students and teachers alike can access, both on and off line, workshops, educational material, lessons and experiments on science and energy, interesting facts and classroom activities.
