NCTU and Delta Announce Cloud Education and Research Program(2012/1/16)
To develop cloud computing and talent, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) and Delta Electronics Inc. today announced a joint program on cloud computing education and research. The program will be sponsored by Delta, with a three year R&D fund, and implemented by the NCTU Department of Computer Science and College of Electrical and Computer Engineering. NCTU's outstanding academic capabilities in the internet and computing fields will encourage development of cloud computing and secure Taiwan's leading position in the highly competitive information sciences field.

NCTU President Yan-Hwa Wu said, "Industrial progress starts from education. The joint program with Delta covers teaching, research, and the contribution of equipment. It will not only improve studies of cloud computing, but will familiarize our students with the latest industrial trends. We can thus better understand the directions technology is taking and cultivate IT talent for the coming era." Mark Ko, President & Chief Operating Officer of Delta, also indicated, "Innovation is our spirit. We value collaborative teaching and research with NCTU and we will work together to create innovative cloud services. We wish to enhance the PUE of cloud products via our strength in power management and put energy saving and carbon reduction into further practice. Also, the excellent academic traditions of NCTU will firmly root research in the cloud computing field. The program will improve cloud research capabilities and train cloud talent."

Yu-Chee Tseng, Dean of NCTU's College of Computer Science, further stated that the "Delta cloud program is our first program with an industrial partner. It will provide cloud classes and equip students with practical abilities. We believe that with Delta's full support, students will be able to master academic theories as well as practical applications in the cloud. They will learn exactly what industries need and enlarge the framework of cloud computing. Moreover, they will not only have access to NCTU's existing cloud resources but also to Delta's basic cloud equipment, which will enhance their education."

In response to the changing technological climate, NCTU's College of Computer Science is seeking cooperation opportunities inside and outside the campus to create both academic and research-oriented results. In addition to the cloud computing program with Delta, NCTU also is offering joint programs with Academia Sinica in 2012, including the Graduate Program for Information and Network Systems and the Graduate Program for International Electrical Engineering to generate research capabilities for educators and expand students' horizons. NCTU is thus striding towards becoming a leading international university.
