The Paris Bourse ended the first session of the week up +0.28% at 7043 points, driven in particular by Carrefour (+4.6%), Thales (+2.5%) and Veolia (+2.3%). The Paris index is approaching a 9% gain since January 1.

While no macroeconomic data were due on Monday, the next few days will see the release of Germany's ZEW index, inflation figures for the eurozone and the UK, and US industrial production and retail sales figures (for December), which will provide further insight into the strength of consumer spending over the holiday period.

Industrial producer prices, housing starts and old home sales figures are also due later in the week.

Traders can also keep a close eye on the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, which will be attended by a number of central bankers, but not by its founder Klaus Schwab, for health reasons.

Among the most eagerly awaited speeches will be those of IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, ECB President Christine Lagarde and nine members of the Fed Council.

As the earnings season gets underway, the first results of US banking groups, published on Friday, were not particularly convincing, as the substantial provisions set aside for the fourth quarter show that they are preparing for a difficult 2023.

On the bond front, our OATs were up +3pts to 2.65%, while Bunds were up +5% to 2.1950%.
There will be no trading in US T-Bonds on Monday, as Wall Street is off today in observance of Martin Luther King's Day.

The euro is stagnating against the greenback at around $1.0823.

In company news, TotalEnergies announces that it has approved the final investment decision for the development of Lapa South-West, a project in which it is operator with a 45% stake, in partnership with Shell (30%) and Repsol Sinopec (25%).

Biosynex announces the extension of its partnership with Singapore-based Credo Diagnostics Biomedical, signing an exclusive agreement for the distribution of VitaPCR systems for an extended territory including the UK.

On Monday, SES announced the successful completion of a 5G link in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) using its Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite communications system.

Finally, the Bich family group informed the AMF that, at December 31, 2022, it held 20,064,271 Bic shares, representing 45.65% of the capital and 61.60% of the voting rights of the disposable lighters, pens and razors company.
