The Paris Bourse is expected to open slightly lower on Tuesday, after a favorable start to the week but marked by the absence of Wall Street.

At around 8:15 a.m., the 'future' contract on the CAC 40 index - January delivery - was down 7.5 points at 7038 points, heralding a modest consolidation in early trading.

The reopening of New York after the extended weekend of 'Martin Luther King, Jr. Day' weekend should help to set a trend, while the Paris index has already posted a 9% gain since January 1.

Futures contracts are currently pointing to a 0.2% to 0.6% decline in Tuesday's opening for US stock markets, which had ended higher on Friday.

Investors are gearing up for a busy day on the economic indicator front, with a number of corporate results to follow.

After a first salvo of results on Friday, the big US banks will continue to take center stage today with the accounts of Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.

Among the other big names expected this week, Alcoa, Netflix and Procter & Gamble will unveil their accounts by the end of the week

Investors know that a wave of disappointing publications would be likely to penalize the equity markets after their thunderous start to the year.

Conversely, if corporate results turn out to be more resilient than expected, they would be a positive catalyst for equities", stresses Clément Inbona, Manager at La Financière de l'Echiquier.

The day will also be rich in statistics, with the release - later this morning - of the ZEW index of investor sentiment in Germany, followed by the New York Fed's Empire State index this afternoon in the United States.

Overnight, investors learned that China's GDP had grown by 3% in 2022, despite the resurgence of the epidemic in the country.

In the fourth quarter, the country's GDP expanded by 2.9% year-on-year.

In its information note, the State Bureau of Statistics (BES) does, however, note that the foundations of the domestic economic recovery 'are not firm'.
