Volkswagen Group has strengthened its technical development activities in China. From April 1, 2024, Thomas Ulbrich, previously a member of the Volkswagen Board of Management in charge of the New Mobility segment, will head the Technical Development Division.

In his new role, Thomas Ulbrich will also be CEO of the Volkswagen China Technology Company (VCTC), located in Hefei, eastern China.

This development center, the Group's largest outside Germany, will form the core of Volkswagen's activities in China, with the development of intelligent, fully connected electric vehicles.

VCTC is therefore set to play a key role in the creation of models specific to the Chinese market. Among the projects currently under development is the first-ever local electric platform, on which all new Volkswagen models for China will be based from 2026 onwards, the automaker points out.
