Stiftelsen Anker has commissioned Veidekke to rehabilitate and rebuild an apartment building in the center of Oslo from offices to almost 100 student dormitories with common rooms.

The contract is a total contract in collaboration of NOK 163 million excl. VAT.

There is a great need for student dormitories in Oslo, so this is a construction project that will mean a lot to many in the years to come. We are very pleased to have been chosen to rebuild a somewhat tired office building into a top-of-the-line dormitory plus communal facilities. We thank Stiftelsen Anker nicely for the trust and the assignment, says department head Rune Andersstuen in Veidekke Bygg Oslo.

Today's office building in Platous gate was built in 1964 and is approximately 6,000 square meters spread over six floors plus a basement. This will be rehabilitated with, among other things, additional insulation of the outer walls, replacement of all windows, the sixth floor will be extended and a shared and two private roof terraces will be built. When everything is finished, there will be 99 student dormitories from the second to the sixth floor, while at street level there will be commercial and catering premises in addition to common living spaces for the students. In the basement, there will be technical rooms, bicycle parking, laundry, exercise room, cinema room for the residents and stalls.

This will be a nice addition to our portfolio of 1,800 student housing in central Oslo. Because the housing situation for students in Oslo is more demanding than ever, we choose to start this project even though the project finances are challenging. In the past, we have rented out our apartments at the same rent as SiO, but here we have to use market rent as a basis because unfortunately our projects no longer qualify for housing bank loans (or government support). We are therefore pleased that the settlement in connection with the revised national budget now provides for non-commercial student housing actors such as ourselves to be able to get housing bank loans, says managing director Svein Hov Skjelle of Stiftelsen Anker .

Construction work will start after the summer holidays with planned completion in August 2025. The assignment is part of Veidekke's order reserve for the second quarter of 2024.
