SCG invites Thais to help save water, partners with Royal Thai Army to host "SCG: United against Drought" initiative to help those affected

As SCG continues to promote water conservation across the organization, it is now also inviting the general public to use water consciously by partnering with the Royal Thai Army to donate water tanks to affected communities as part of the "SCG: United against Drought" initiative.

Mr. Arsa Sarasin, Director of SCG, and Chairman of the CSR Committee for Sustainable Development, said that the current severe drought has affected all sectors in Thailand. SCG realizes the urgency to alleviate the plight of those affected and thus has joined hands with the Royal Thai Army to launch the "SCG: United against Drought" project with a 10 million baht budget. Initially, the company will provide large water tanks for communities that are affected by the water shortages in the central and northeastern regions. The water tanks are to be installed in public places such as schools, temples and local offices in those communities.

Lieutenant General Sermsak Niyamosot, Deputy Chief of Staff, Royal Thai Army, said that the army is deeply concerned about those affected by the drought and is ready to support in every way, including providing man power, vehicles and water trucks. The army is also looking closely into the areas affected by the drought in order to offer necessary help to all communities in need of assistance. The army hopes that the partnership with SCG will help to alleviate the hardship villagers have been experiencing.

Mr. Kan Trakulhoon, President & CEO of SCG, said that SCG already has in place water-conservation policies. During the current dry spell, SCG has stepped up these policies, implementing the 3R (Reduce, Reuse/ Recycle, Replenish) strategy in the company's operations by reducing the amount of water used, treating waste water using state-of-the-art technology, and reusing water where applicable. For office initiatives, buildings that are certified as "Green Buildings" already are installed with water-saving bathroom devices. In addition, 100% recycled water from the reserve at the headquarters is used to flush toilets and water plants. SCG also instills awareness in all employees to conserve water in their everyday activities such as making sure the tap is turned off properly. The company would like to invite everybody on board to use water efficiently to ensure a sustainable supply of clean water in the future.
