We are delighted to welcome two new leaders to the Video department.

Mona Lalwani joins as senior executive producer, Reporter Video. Mona will help grow and guide the team that produces videos featuring reporting - and often reporters - from across the newsroom. Mona will help us expand the work of this growing team, identifying compelling news and enterprise stories and steering editorial details under tight deadlines. She'll co-lead the team with Mike Schmidt, also senior executive producer, Reporter Video, who will guide the unit's visuals and storytelling. Together Mona and Mike will work to establish strategic goals and coverage targets for the team's work on and off platform.

Mona most recently worked at Vox as an award-winning executive producer and story editor who grew Vox video into a globally recognized brand. Her emphasis on rigorous reporting and compelling visuals propelled Vox's YouTube channel to unparalleled success within seven years. The channel, with 12 million subscribers and 3.5 billion views, has also inspired productions with Netflix, HBO and YouTube Originals.

Mona's sharp editorial instincts on deadline, ability to identify formats that turn into massive audience wins, and passion for fostering diverse and cross-platform teams are at the heart of her leadership. She brings structure and stability to creative teams and believes in cultivating spaces where journalists can do their best and boldest work.

She started her career in India, where she wrote and edited features for a leading arts and lifestyle publication, Platform. As a reporter in New York, first with The Verge and later with Engadget, she translated her reporting skills from text to video. She joined Vox in 2017 as the first story editor for video before becoming the executive producer and editorial director. Under her leadership, the team won a dozen awards, including an Emmy, a Murrow and multiple Online Journalism Awards.

Mona holds a master's degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She grew up in Delhi and has called New York home for the last decade.

Mona starts Tuesday.
