Southern Company reported consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2012. For the quarter, the company reported total revenues of $3,703 million compared to $3,696 million a year ago. Operating income was $814 million compared to $589 million a year ago. Net income was $399 million compared to $277 million a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $635 million compared to $373 million a year ago. Net income available to common shareholders were $383 million or $0.44 per basic share compared to $261 million or $0.30 per basic share a year ago.

For the nine months, the company reported total revenues of $16,537 million compared to $17,657 million a year ago. Operating income was $4,463 million compared to $4,231 million a year ago. Net income was $2,415 million compared to $2,268 million a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $3,749 million compared to $3,487 million a year ago. Net income available to common shareholders were $2,350 million or $2.70 per basic share compared to $2,203 million or $2.57 per basic share a year ago. Operating revenues for the were $16.54 billion, compared with $17.66 billion in 2011, a 6.3% decrease that was due primarily to lower fuel costs being passed on to customers.
