(Geneva, Switzerland, January 19, 2012) - Dr. Eize de Boer from SGS will be a key speaker in the launch event of EXCiPACT™, a new international excipients scheme owned by the International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council. It provides a high quality, independent certification of manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceutical excipients to prescribed Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Distribution Practices (GDP) standards. It helps ensure patient safety through supplier quality, while minimizing the overall supply chain costs.

EXCiPACT™ is to be launched to the public on January 25, 2012. The event has been created to attract participants from along the pharmaceutical supply chain, especially for excipient manufacturers and suppliers, distributors and final dosage form manufacturers as well as regulators and 3rd party auditing organizations.

The event organizers have put together a high quality team of speakers designed to explain all you need to know about the scheme together with the views of key regulators in Europe and the USA, key industrialists from BASF, Merck, Dow, and Croda, and experienced 3rd party auditors. There is ample time for Q&A and for networking with other delegates.

"We are pleased to begin working with SGS as a 3rd party audit organization with the intention of authorizing them to provide EXCiPACT™ Certification to excipient suppliers globally. SGS have been providing 3rd party audit services for assessing the implementation of GMP in the manufacture of medical devices and APIs for many years, on behalf suppliers and the pharmaceutical industry. This experience will be invaluable in helping establish EXCiPACT™ Certification as a valuable tool for excipient suppliers and their pharmaceutical customers wherever they are located in the world" says Dr Iain Moore, Project Coordinator of IPEC.

"SGS has contributed its expertise in developing the EXCiPACT™ Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Distribution Practices certification scheme. SGS has also generated a track record of pilot audits ahead of the mounting interest" says Eize de Boer, International Business Development Manager, Life Science Industry at SGS. Dr. de Boer will give an overview in the EXCiPACT™ launch event of how the scheme would work best in practice.

The launch event of EXCiPACT™ will take place on January 25, 2012 at the Calalonia Berna Hotel in Barcelona, Spain.
