Safran Electrical & Power announced yesterday that it has signed a contract with Bell Textron to supply starter-generator systems for the U.S. Army's Future Long-Range Assault Helicopter (FLRAA) program.

Safran will supply a high-voltage starter-generator system, capable of producing the power needed to meet the evolving electrical requirements of military aircraft.

This system will feature a high-speed rotor and state-of-the-art power electronics, combining a high level of control and reliability.

Bell's long-range assault helicopter of the future is the next-generation solution to replace the U.S. Army's UH-60 Blackhawk utility helicopters. With its tilt rotor, this aircraft combines the advantages of a helicopter for vertical take-off and landing, with the speed of a twin-turboprop aircraft.
