Safran has announced that Akasa Air and CFM International (a 50/50 joint venture between SafranAircraft Engines and GE) have signed a contract for the purchase of LEAP-1B engines to power a fleet of 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the order for which was announced last week.

The contract also includes spare engines and a service contract.

' Our customers, including Akasa, are seeing a 15-20% reduction in fuel consumption with their LEAP-powered fleets, and this engine has the highest reliability and best utilization rate in its thrust class', said Gaël Méheust, CEO of CFM International.g. of CFM International.

Based in Mumbai (India), Akasa Air began operations in August 2022, and aims to become one of the world's top 30 airlines by the end of the decade
