Rolls-Royce has received hydrogen compatibility certification for its mtu 4000 Series FNER/FV gas engines from TÜV Süd.

This certification confirms that the engines can operate with a hydrogen mixture of up to 25%.

Rolls-Royce states that the first MW from a 100% hydrogen mtu will be delivered 'within the next few months'.

By using green hydrogen, these engines will operate without CO2 emissions, meeting strict EU standards without exhaust gas treatment.

The first project to install 100% hydrogen engines is planned for 2025 in Duisburg, Germany. Rolls-Royce is also working on next-generation hydrogen engines, capable of producing as much energy as current natural gas engines.
