- "Egines of legende!" explores the connections between racing cars and mass-production vehicles, highlighting Renault's technological expertise in engines,
- L'Atelier Renault is also taking a look back at Renault's successes on the track and its affordable technological innovations, from the company's first engine designed in 1902 to this year's launch of mass-market electric vehicles with ZOE.
In the words of Chief Operating Officer Carlos
Tavarès: "Formula 1 is a fantastic laboratory for
trying out new technologies in extreme conditions. We have
used our Grand Prix commitment to grow our expertise in
downsizing, friction reduction and cooling, all of which
improve energy efficiency while maintaining driving
pleasure".
The new exhibition at L'Atelier Renault
looks at the links between cutting-edge technology
and mass-production vehicles, showcasing 110 years of
Renault powertrain excellence with:
-the first Renault engine from 1902,
-the Renault 5 Turbo who won the "Tour de Corse", celebrating the R5's 40th birthday,
-Renault Sport models: Clio Gordini R.S., Clio R.S. Ange & Démon and Twingo R.S.,
-the Energy R9M dCi 130: this engine, notably powering Mégane Collection 2012, is the most powerful 1.6-liter diesel on the market, developed by the people behind the success of the Renault V10 in the 1990s.
These synergies between racing and road cars have
culminated in Renault's ambitious policy on electric
vehicles. Renault is the only full-line carmaker with a
complete range of four affordable electric vehicles: Kangoo
Z.E. and Fluence Z.E. launched in late 2011, and Twizy and
ZOE in 2012. The company has also taken electricity to the
track, where the Formula 1 engines of the four teams
supplied by Renault in 2012 are equipped with KERS, a
system of energy recovery during braking. Renault is a
forerunner in KERS technology, developed by the teams at
Viry-Châtillon since 2007.
Renault and Formula 1: lasting success
Renault has claimed more Formula 1 titles than any other carmaker in the last two decades, amassing 19 World Champion Constructor and Driver titles. The company demonstrated all its technological excellence last season by taking both the Constructor title (with Red Bull Racing 2011) and the Driver title (with Sebastian Vettel) for the second consecutive year.
L'Atelier Renault is taking a look back at Renault's
greatest moments in Formula 1 since it started competing in
1977: from the first victory's with the RS14 one-seater
driven by Jean-Pierre Jabouille to the latest one with the
Red Bull Racing 2011 and the RS27 engine. And from 22th of
February, L'Atelier Renault will present the 4 one-seaters
motorized by Renault in 2012: Red Bull Racing Renault,
Lotus Renault, Williams Renault and Caterham Renault.
