Now Offers 4G Services in 31 Provinces and Achieved Transmission Speed of 1.2 terabits per second in Fibre Optic Trial

Ooredoo Algeria has started 2017 with the launch of 4G services in 28 new provinces, taking the total covered to 31, following its success in achieving deployment authorisation from the ARPT (Algeria Regulatory Authority for Post and Telecommunications).

The company now offers 4G services in Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Sétif, Ouargla, Djelfa, Biskra, Ghardaia, Adrar, Boumerdes, Béjaia, Blida, Annaba, Tipasa, Sidi Bel Abbes, Bouira, Chlef, Batna, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Médéa, Mascara, M'sila, Tiaret, Skikda, Ain Defla, Mostaganem, Relizane and Ain Témouchent. These new provinces join Tlemcen, Tizi-Ouzou and Béchar, which have been covered by Ooredoo's 4G network since October 2016.

Hendrik Kasteel, CEO, Ooredoo Algeria, said: 'This extension of the network will facilitate customers' access to 4G services and will enable Ooredoo to maintain its technological leadership through its 4G network. Ooredoo continues to be a major player in the mobile industry representing the cutting-edge of innovation.'

With the deployment of its 4G network in 31 provinces, and on-going work to strengthen its coverage, Ooredoo continues to provide the best data experience for its customers. The company is offering all existing customers a free 4G SIM card and enabling them to maintain the same mobile number when they upgrade.

In addition, working with Nokia, Ooredoo Algeria successfully achieved an incredible transmission speed of 1.2 terabits per second over optical fibre this month, in Africa's first field trial of innovative optical communications technology.

The trial was conducted between the cities of Algiers and Ain Defla over a distance exceeding 200 kilometres. Commercial deployment of the technology in the near future will enable Ooredoo Algeria to offer high capacity-based solutions to its subscribers.

This will be one of the first commercial deployments of this innovative Nokia technology, which allows service providers to maximize the performance and flexibility of optical fibre. Nokia's 1830 PSS Portfolio, which helps in optimizing optical networks to meet unpredictable traffic demands, was used for the trial.
