K&S : K+S Completes Acquisition of Fertilizer Activities in China

Expansion of the Specialty Business

Today, K+S successfully completed the purchase of the activities of Chinese fertilizer producer Huludao Magpower Fertilizers Co., Ltd. (Magpower) announced on July 14, 2016. The acquisition will further expand the specialty business and with the production site in China, access to the South-East Asian growth markets will be improved.

Magpower is one of the largest Chinese producers of synthetic mangesium sulphate (SMS), which is used as a fertilizer for oil palms, soybeans and sugar cane as well as for industrial applications. The products produced in Huludao will complement the K+S product range through the addition of highly effective, water soluble magnesium sulfate. Amongst others this kind of magnesium sulphate has a positive effect on root development, water absorption, yields and plant quality parameters.

The site currently has a capacity of 90,000 tonnes which can be doubled to 180,000 tonnes in the foreseeable future.

K+S is continuing to consistently implement the management agenda. Magpower and the investment in Saudi Arabian fertilizer producer Al-Biariq announced on December 19, 2016, are measures designed to expand and enhance the specialty business in the Potash and Magnesium Products business unit.
