Amsterdam, 15 January 2014 - The Heineken Africa Foundation ('HAF') today announced that it has appointed Guus Lubsen as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the HAF as of 1 January 2014. Mr Lubsen was a member of Heineken N.V.'s ('HEINEKEN') Executive Board for over seven years until his retirement at the end of 2002. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he succeeds Paul Hamers who successfully supervised the launch of the HAF in 2007.

Mr Hamers was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for two terms of three years each. During these terms he built up a prosperous foundation that is well equipped to continue to realise its objective: supporting the improvement of the health of people living in sub-Saharan African communities by financially supporting relevant health projects. Mr Hamers has been instrumental in developing the HAF into the flourishing foundation it is today, bringing better health care to thousands of people in sub- Saharan Africa. The Trustees and the members of the Advisory Board of the HAF would like to thank Mr Hamers for his excellent commitment to the HAF and wish him all the best. They are also delighted to welcome Mr Lubsen as HAF's new Chairman of the Board of Trustees and look forward to working with him. He brings with him both a passion for the work that the HAF does and a wealth of knowledge about HEINEKEN and its activities in Africa.

About the Heineken Africa Foundation
In 2007 HEINEKEN launched the Heineken Africa Foundation (HAF) to support the improvement of the health of people living in sub-Saharan African communities by financially supporting relevant health projects. The HAF emphasizes HEINEKEN's long-standing commitment to Africa. The projects are executed in countries where HEINEKEN operates.

The HAF works in partnerships with HEINEKEN, its subsidiaries in sub-Saharan Africa and non-governmental or governmental organizations (NGOs or GOs). For each project, a tripartite partnership is set up where the foundation provides the funding, the local subsidiary supports through manpower, expertise and monitoring and the NGO or GO ensures final implementation and integration into the local public health system.

Since it concerns an endowment fund of € 20 million, the HAF can spend an annual amount up to approximately € 1million on health projects in Africa. From its start in 2007, the foundation started over 50 projects worth almost € 5 million in Nigeria, DRC, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Namibia and South Africa.

It is a registered charity, based in the Netherlands. For more information about the HAF, please visit: http://africafoundation.heineken.com.
