Friday 18 January, London, 2013 - With severe weather warnings for icy blasts and heavy snowfall extending across Britain, HCL encourages all healthcare staff to stay informed and be prepared.

HCL Nursing Managing Director, Helen Rudanec says disruptions to traffic, travel and services has the potential to increase health risks to vulnerable patients, and has informed all HCL locums to keep aware and updated during this time.

"We are communicating to all staff to heed cold weather alerts and to anticipate what health risks these conditions could pose to the elderly and vulnerable, Ms Rudanec said.

"Right now, our emphasis is on business continuity and equipping our candidates with the tools they need to stay informed and prepared. She said.

With more than 340 staff members and over 2,000 temporary and permanent doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, qualified social workers and administration and clerical staff supplied to both the public and private sectors every week, it is imperative HCL continues to provide public and private sectors with the highest levels of care.

"We have informed our candidates to refer to the Department of Health's National Cold Weather Plan and to review their trust's emergency plan for appropriate and preventative measures. Essentially, we are making everyone as aware as possible of all potential transport and service challenges.
