Harima is glad to announce development of an innovative primer that facilitates removal of printed ink from the surface of plastic materials for faster and more sustainable recycling.

Given its high versatility, plastic is used in a large number of fields and industries, however increased environmental awareness has made it necessary to come up with solutions for more sustainable recycling methods. Harima is addressing this need with the development of an advanced agent that makes it easy to remove the printed ink on plastic layers, allowing the plastic to be recycled and reused for a variety of applications.

Applying the primer between plastic materials and printed layers at the time of manufacturing makes it easier to detach the latter when recycling plastic items. In addition, the primer adheres easily to such materials as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polyolefin etc., and has excellent coating properties. Given the product's high adhesion to printed ink and durability against solvents present in the printed layers, manufacturers can continue to use their current ink of choice and maintain such advantages as great coloring and luster. The primer is also efficient for such applications as hard coatings, adhesive layers, release layers etc., which enhances its potential for use with a wide range of items.
Harima will continue to fully utilize and further enhance its resin synthesis technologies, to meet existing and potential needs in the market.
