Ganfeng Lithium led the establishment of Jiangxi Province lithium industry science and technology innovation consortium

On July 7, 2022, the Xinyu City Conference on the Advancement of National Innovative Cities and the Establishment of the Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Alliance was held in Xinyu city.

The lithium battery industry is one of the pillar industries in Jiangxi Province, with three major lithium battery industry clusters established in Xinyu, Yichun, and Ganzhou. These clusters have nurtured several leading enterprises with industry influence, covering the entire lithium battery industry chain. The "14th Five-Year Plan for High-Quality Development of New Energy Industries in Jiangxi Province" explicitly states the focus on "leading industries such as photovoltaics and lithium batteries," seizing the opportunity of energy transformation, and accelerating the high-quality development of the lithium battery industry.

Looking at the lithium battery industry in Jiangxi Province and globally, there are still bottlenecks in the development of lithium mining and selection technology, clean lithium ore extraction technology, comprehensive development and utilization technology of brine, product deep processing, battery material technology upgrades, lithium battery cascade utilization, and clean recycling.

To address these common industry issues, the alliance focuses on lithium mine resource exploration technology, efficient and low-cost production technology of lithium salt, processing technology of metallic lithium and lithium alloy materials, solid electrolyte materials, solid-state lithium battery technology, lithium battery material preparation technology, and clean recycling technology for retired lithium batteries as future key research directions. Through collaborative innovation between upstream and downstream industries and multiple parties, the alliance aims to conduct technological research and development, deeply integrate the advantages of production, academia, and research, and promote the rapid commercial application of cutting-edge technologies.

Currently, the alliance has 19 research platforms at the provincial level or above, including 10 national-level platforms. The expert committee has 42 members, including 3 academicians. Research and technological achievements will be initially applied to member enterprises and will be further promoted to the entire province and the country after maturity.

"Developing the new energy industry is a national strategy and a necessary path for our country to move from a 'big automobile country' to a 'strong automobile country.' It is a strategic measure to address climate change, promote green development, and achieve the dual-carbon goals. We must adhere to policy guidance, align with the policies of the Party and the country, closely focus on the major technological needs of our province's lithium industry, and accelerate the development of the lithium industry towards intelligence, high-end, integration, and service," said a representative at the conference.

Li Liangbin, Chairman of Ganfenglithium, stated, "The alliance will continue to actively attract powerful enterprises, universities, and research institutions to join, contributing its strength to the transformation, upgrading, and innovative development of the lithium industry in Jiangxi, working towards the ambitious goal of achieving a hundred-billion-yuan output value for the lithium industry in Jiangxi."
